BANIHAL Mar 30: National Conference leader, Sajjad Shaheen expressed concern over damage caused to shops in the Banihal town due to heavy rains for the past few days and sought immediate compensation for the sufferers.
In a statement, Mr Shaheen said incessant rains have caused landslides in the peripheries of the town besides remote areas of Banihal tehsil, as a result of which people have suffered colossal losses.
While seeking immediate survey of the affected areas by the Revenue authorities, he urged the administration to provide interim relief in terms of cash and rations to the sufferers.
He said half a dozen shops have been washed away in the main Banihal town while several houses at Gagarnaag and Bohardar have been partially damaged.
Mr Shaheen further said reports of devastation caused by floods have also come from Trigam, Khari, Buzla, Chaka Sarbagni, Amkote, Chaknarwaa, Thachi Neel, Maligam, Bingara, Mahu-Mangit while small temporary bridges have been completely washed due to floods in Mahu river which is flowing above danger mark.
He said this has posed a grave threat to people living near the river, adding all road links have been closed due to landslides.
