Several issues needed to be addressed for restoration of peace: Gupta

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Nov 28: The former Union Minister, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has said that while searching for peace in troubled Kashmir, there is also a great need to address several other impending issues which needed early redressal.
These, he pointed out also include the permanent rehabilitation of migrants in a well planned manner, rectifying the regional disparities, especially the fair delimitation of constituencies, grant of political reservation to Scheduled Tribes, looking  into drawbacks in  educational policies, time schedule for execution of major development works and effective measures to check malpractices.
Prof. Gupta pointed out that thousands of crores of rupees have been spent on relief measures but the issue of return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants have made a little headway and the number of such families are swelling as many Muslim families have joined the unfortunate lot. He suggested creation of job oriented industrial colonies with full security arrangement in the Valley itself and similarly the migrants of Jammu areas should be settled in their respective districts as mere doling relief is no solution to this human problem.
Prof. Gupta strongly pleaded for fair delimitation of Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies to bring to an end of the mischief of regional domination, which is leading to regional tensions.
He said that the design was evident when the embargo was put that there would be no delimitation till 2026, although in this State no fair delimitation was held from the very beginning of the poll process. This mischief was played by taking cue from some different amendments at the Centre. The embargo on the delimitation is depriving the Gujjar Bakerwals and others including Scheduled Tribe communities despite recognition by the Centre since 1991.
He ridiculed the ranting by National Conference and their fellow travellers in the Congress for restoration of pre-1953 status of the State and handing over PoK to Pak and questioned that why all this was not done when they themselves were in authority both in the State and at the Centre for so many long years. And moreso the bluff is being played knowing well that what the nationalistic stand had been of their adversaries during all along.
As far as the problems in Kashmir are concerned, Prof. Gupta alleged that right from separatism, radicalization, extremism and even the militancy, the seeds of the evils were sown by themselves and Pakistan is harvesting to its inimical end towards India.
