Samad, Kanaihya slam brilliant half-centuries as J&K scores decent 291/7 against Delhi

JAMMU, Dec 16: Skipper Abdul Samad, talented Kanaihya Wadhawan, promising Raghav Sharma and gritty Mohammad Shahdad helped Jammu and Kashmir to score a decent total of 291/7 against formidable Delhi on the opening day of the 3-day Vijay Merchant Trophy Under-16 Boys Cricket Tournament at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi today.
Earlier, put into bat, J&K started the innings in style as the openers Samad and Kanaihya hit series of boundaries from the word go. Samad who scored fastest 50 runs off 28 balls on the other day, scored power-packed (60 off 43 balls (50 off 32) today, studded with 12 boundaries and one massive six, while Kanaihya, who scored a magnificent century against Haryana, scored valuable 60 off 64 balls with 8 superb fours today. Raghav Sahrma was another contributor, who scored 48 runs off 144 balls with 6 hits to the fence, while Muhhamad Shahdad scored 43 off 109 balls with 5 boundaries, Owais Rashid and Sampark Gupta also contributed 26 and 21 runs to the total respectively and Younis Feroz chipped in with 12 runs.
At stumps, Mujtaba Yousuf was unbeaten on 12 runs, while Javed Ahmed was on naught. Praful Dhar and Ashim Nanda have yet to bat.
For Delhi, Kamal Bairwa scalped 3 important wickets, while Mayank Gusain bagged 2 wickets. Nitesh Awana and Anish Sharma claimed one wicket each.
