NEW DELHI : Threatening to launch an agitation against Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee today gave a 72-hour ultimatum to the Congress leader to reveal the names of party men allegedly involved in 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
“Within 72 hours the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi should reveal the names of Congressmen involved in 1984 anti-Sikh riots or else we will launch a stir against Congress party and gherao his house,” said Manjit Singh GK, president of DSGMC.
He was referring to Gandhi’s recent remarks that some Congressmen were probabely involved in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots but they were punished.
Several Sikh groups had yesterday staged a protest outside the Congress headquarters at 24, Akbar Road and demanded that Gandhi reveal the names of party members who were involved in the riots.
On Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s decision for setting up an SIT to re-investigate the cases of anti-Sikh riots, Singh demanded setting up of a Supreme Court-appointed SIT .
“For this, we and Shiromani Akali Dal members will soon meet Chief Justice of India,” he said.
Welcoming Kejriwal’s move, Singh said that he doesn’t know how far the CM would be able to pursue the matter having formed the Government with Congress’ support.
Singh, who is also the president of Shiromani Akali Dal- Badal’s Delhi unit, said that it was shocking that “everyday new revelations are made which is like rubbing salt into the wounds of families of the innocent killed mercilessly 30 years ago”.
He said that the “scion of Congress party has accepted that his party men were involved and that he should name them”.
The general secretary of DSGMC Manjinder Singh Sirsa alleged that Ved Marwaha Commission constituted by the Government to investigate the riots was told to stop inquiry halfway when it highlighted the role of top Delhi police.
“This shows clear cut involvement of the Congress party,” he alleged. (PTI)
