POONCH, Feb 18: Sharnathi Action Committee (SAC), Poonch today demanded the Government to settle the remaining cases of Displaced Persons (DPs) of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) by transferring amount of 1st installment of one time compensation into the account of beneficiaries without any delay.
While speaking in a meeting held today here at Fountain Garden, the speakers regretted that it took 32 months to clear relief amount to only 6400 to 6500 families, who got the relief amount directly into their account. “If the concerned officers/officials continue with this pace, it may take decades together to settle cases of 26319 families of PoK and 10065 families of Chamb sector of 1965 and 1971”, they added.
The speakers also wondered how the Government identified 26319 displaced families of PoK leaving aside 5300 families settled outside the J&K and another chunk of 9500 families, when no such exercise was made till date by either of the Government. They further said that Rs 2000 crore package announced by the Government is meager if compared to the loss suffered by DPs of PoK.
Pointing out that 2162 beneficiaries have been put on hold by Divisional Commissioner, the speakers stressed in one voice that beneficiaries who have been seeded and submitted by the PRO Jammu be settled immediately and the amount be transferred into their account without any delay.
