Rs 838 cr being spent on construction of 194 health institutions: Shabir

SRINAGAR, Aug 17:  Rs. 838 crore are being spent on construction of 194 health institutions in Kashmir division which included 9 district hospitals, 44 sub-district hospitals, 56 public health centres and 85 sub health centres while Rs. 433 crore stands expended on this account so far. Apart from treating 35.86 lakh patients, about 70 thousand major and minor surgeries besides 19531 deliveries have been conducted up to ending July, 2013 of current fiscal.
This information was given to the Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmad Khan while reviewing the physical and financial achievements of Health Department at an officers meeting here today.
Commissioner Secretary, Health, Shaleen Kabra, Director Health Services, Kashmir Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, Mission Director, NRHM, Dr Yashpal Sharma, Project Director, AIDS Control Programme, Drug Controller, Deputy Directors, CMOs and Medical Superintendents were present on the occasion.
It was given out that Rs. 34.56 crore have been spent under Janani Suraksha Yojna (JSY) in Kashmir division while department has generated a revenue of Rs. 43.68 crore so far during current fiscal.
Under Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) 13199 sputum examinations have been conducted in which 1247 cases have been detected with Tuberculosis. 15901 psychiatric patients have been examined and treated during this period, the meeting was informed.
Under Control of Blindness (COB) scheme, spectacles were provided to 859 students free of cost while 1531 students stands examined during first four months of current financial year.
While speaking on the occasion, the Minister stressed for improving mother and child health care facilities. He directed officers to utilize the available manpower and other resources judiciously to come up to the expectations of the patients coming for treatment. He instructed concerned officers to make all newly constructed health institutions operational so that its benefit percolates down to the common masses.
Emphasizing for accelerating the recruitment process, the Minister asked Director Health Service and other concerned to get all the vacancies filled in time bound manner. He directed Director Health Services to monitor the functioning and the progress of the health institutions and take corrective measures where it needs to improve the health care facilities across the division.
Mr Khan said that Deputy Commissioners of the all the districts would be asked to launch a massive publicity campaign to aware the people about the diagnostic and other facilities available in health institutions in their respective districts so that weaker sections of the society are benefitted. The Minister asked the officers to organize mobile health camps particularly in rural and far flung areas to bring maximum people under the schemes run by the department.
Stressing for checking the tendency of referring cases to Srinagar, the Minister directed concerned to refer only those cases which are complicated and need special treatment. The Minister directed the CMOs of Leh, Kargil and Kupwara to provide medicare facilities to the patients suffering from cancer irrespective of their domicile in order to extend the facilities to such patients, who need it.
