JAMMU, Mar 27: Former minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla has said that since BJP came to power at the Centre, prices of essentials have been going up with every passing day. It has completely failed to check the price rise of essentials.
While interacting with the people of his Gandhinagar constituency here today, Bhalla said that prices of wheat and rice, the main staple food of people, provided by State Food and Civil Supplies Department was earlier available at Rs 8 per kilogram and Rs 10 per kilogram for Above Poverty Line (APL) ration card holders has been increased by five rupees per kilogram each. Everything has become expensive. Inflation is the number one cause of worry for common man today. Be it food, fuel or clothing, everything has become dearer.
The Congress leader expressed serious concerns over the betrayal of BJP with people of Jammu. He said the people of the entire Jammu region have suffered due to the lack of governance during previous two years. Bhalla accused the BJP of surrendering the interests of the Jammuites for the sake of power and deceiving the people who voted heavily in favour of the party during the last Assembly elections. He said the failure of Govt exposed the real face of BJP and its leadership before the public.
He further stated that the BJP always exploited the sentiments of Jammu people by making false promises particularly during the electioneering but practically, they did nothing after coming to power. He remarked that both the Central and the State Governments miserably failed to create new employment opportunities for the unemployed youth who are feeling cheated and brewing with anger and resentment. Congress leader criticized the Central Government over the steep rise in the prices of essential commodities which further worsened the financial position of general public.
He said in a State, which is short of four to five lakh labour – mostly skilled and semi-skilled, efforts should have been on the skill-development of the unemployed youth. Then there are a number of flagship development projects, majority of them sponsored by the Government of India. Most of these projects (be it power projects or road construction) need to import majority of the workforce; from technical staff like engineers to skilled workers as well as labour.
