Rationalizing school resources

Under the scheme of rationalizing school resources, School Education Department is poised to co-locate 1300 schools in Jammu province in one month’s time from now. The rationalizing aims at focusing on actual requirement of the Government schools, deployment of teaching staff and enrolment of students in the schools ascertained through respective Chief Education Officers. District Administration is also involved in this exercise. Co-locating of schools means that 1300 Government schools are to be co-located with the schools in their immediate vicinity under this rationalization exercise. These schools have been identified on the basis of enrolment, distance from nearby school and staff in the nearby school etc. The basic of new approach is that at least one teacher for every 25 students should be made available. The scheme has been initiated with the primary purpose of providing better standard of education to the students and other accompanying facilities. We learn that the Directorate of School Education Jammu has now a clear picture of existing schools, the strength of the staff as well as the teachers and the needs of echo school that have to be provided.
This is an appreciable decision of the Government. Actually the decision was prompted when it was brought to the notice of the Minister that there were many schools either over-staffed or under-staffed. Also there were schools overcrowded with students and others with only a few students. The schools in close proximities are now clubbed together under the new scheme and this is one way how the Department can bring about rationalizing of resources.
