Rare urology cancer surgery performed in SSH Jammu

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Mar 11: In a new and first of its kind, the urology cancer surgery at Super Speciality Hospital of GMC Jammu attained new heights when a patient 72 yrs old male with advanced urinary bladder cancer was subjected to keyhole surgery (laparoscopy).
Herein the whole of the urinary bladder was removed laparoscopically and only the urinary diversion was done by a small incision. This helped the patient recover faster with an additional advantage that the need for blood transfusion was also reduced.
This was the fifth such surgery performed by Dr Rahul Gupta (Urologist) and team which included Dr Ajay Anand, Dr Satish Parihar, Dr. Mukesh and Dr Owais.
This complex surgery also was a challenge for the anaesthesia team which included Dr BB Kapoor and Dr Amit Manhas. With his surgery now available in Jammu, poor people don’t have to go out of the State for the same.
Dr Rahul was recently invited as Faculty at PGI Chandigarh at robotic/laparoscopy urology conference.
