SRINAGAR, Oct 22: The newly constituted J&K Peoples Re-publican Party (PRP) today accused the NC-Congress coalition of their total failure in rescuing the flood hit people of the State and alleged that coalition has not taken any effective steps in rehabilitation of the thousands of flood victims even after 45 days.
Talking to reporters here, today along with two Executive members, Bashir Malik and Ghulam Rasool Loan (Parvana) of the party, PRP spokesperson Mir Ghulam Rasool Butwani made a scathing attack on political parties in the State especially NC-Congress coalition and Opposition PDP for their failure in coming to rescue of the flood hit people in the State.
He said, while Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah himself admitted that his Government was in oblivion for 36 hours after the devastating floods hit the Valley on September 7,  the PDP activists went in hibernation instead of voluntarily coming to extend their hand and support in relief and rescue operations in different parts of the State.
He said the only agenda for PDP is to exploit the people on the name of elections as its leaders were in hibernation and only came out after knowing that elections are being held in the State.
Mir made an appeal to Election Commission to defer the holding of Assembly poll by four to five months in the State so that Government can fully concentrate on rehabilitation of flood victims.
He said 12 lakh people have been affected by floods in the State while over 300 people died in the State.  Mir demanded that the insurance companies should expedite the settlement of claims and avoid delaying tactics to provide succor to the people. Besides the interest on traders loans be waived off and the recovery be delayed. This should be done under a special package, he added.
Expressing his concern over the devastation created by the floods Mir said the State has not yet come out of the devastation suffered due to 25 year long turmoil and the devastation caused by floods has broken the back of the people. He said it will take a long time to bring the State back on rails and under these circumstances there is every apprehension that youth can go astray again and fall in the hands of those forces who are inimical to the welfare of the people State.
