Promoting Panchgavya

Sir,
This has reference to the writeup ‘Panchgavya for farmers’ by Maneka Sanjay Gandhi (DE, July 8, 2018).It is interesting to read that Dr. K.Natarajan, who has done a lot of work related to effects of Panchgavya on plants, animals and human beings, has made immunity boosters for cattle and two herbal medicines for diabetes and arthritis and has been conferred with the prestigious award ‘Srishti’for his biopesticides. He and other scientists who have  conducted research for decades together to promote organic farming technique called Panchgavya deserve appreciation for their work. There is no doubt that as a result of Green Revolution in India, there was phenomenal rise in the production of food grains in our country. But the persistent use of pesticides, insecticides, chemical fertilizers etc degraded the quality of soil as well as the food grains.
The time came when the people started looking for some harmless technology and agricultural practices to produce healthy and nutritious food grains, vegetables, fruit etc. That is how organic farming came into being replacing the chemical fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides. It is the time when consumers are ready to pay more but the food must be nutritious and healthy. But the wonder technique Panchgavya consisting of five products from the cow:dung, urine, milk, curd and ghee and some added by Dr Natrajan such as sugarcane juice/ jaggery, coconut water, ripe bananas, grape juice, etc if combined in proper quantity to form a miracle product Panchgavya as per the recipe can have magical effect on production of fruits, vegetables, foodgrains if applied at the proper time in proper quantity. It acts as a growth stimulant and pest inhibitor and results in enhanced production besides increasing the shelf life of fruits such as guava, lime and other fruit and vegetables.
Thus this wonder technique makes the storing and selling of produce easy. Moreover, it reduces the irrigational needs and advances the harvest of crop by 15 days. This technique is biofriendly and  very useful. Therefore, it should be popularised  and the farmers must be motivated to adopt Panchgavya to produce better quality crops and fruit by holding awareness camps.Farmers who adopt this technique should be provided incentives in the beginning to promote it.The fact that this technique can also prove to be an elixir for the animals and the human beings as it boosts their immunity makes it all the more useful and beneficial.
