Pro-women schemes

Prime Minister feels happy that his Government is committed to introducing as many pro-women schemes in the country as is possible. If we want to bring about radical change in the social and economic status of women in India, then we shall have to provide them opportunities in which their talent for creative activities is given space. In a video conference with Merchant’s Chamber ladies wing Prime Minister announced that henceforth women of India can retain their original name in their passports and other documents after marriage. The practice so far was that they had to change their name to add the name of their husbands or in-laws.
There is no denial of the fact that during two and a half years in office, Modi Government has taken some concrete measures towards empowerment of women through various schemes like Mudra and Ujjwala, among others. The period of maternity leave has been raised from 12 weeks to 26 weeks and a woman delivering in Government hospitals would be assisted to the tune of rupees 6,000. These are only a few examples of what the Government intends to do in respect of empowering women socially, economically and psychologically.
We find that the Government is trying to fulfill the provisions of the Constitution of India that stipulate that women shall have equal rights with men in all walks of life and that being the important component of civil society their empowerment in all respects has to be ensured. We are confident that the Government is deeply committed to empowering women of India with all rights provided in the Constituting. This is vital importance in carrying the society forward along the right path of justice and humanity.
