JAMMU, Mar 6: The Preliminary Round of 8th Annual Inter State Northern Zone Declamation Contest for Silver Rolling Trophy instituted by Governor, NN Vohra organized by the Higher Education Department was held today at Govt PG College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, here.
The topic for the declamation contest was “Is Demonetization a success or failure?”.
22 students from various colleges of Jammu region got the opportunity to showcase their ideas and oratory skills on a common platform on the issues and the challenges faced by the society.
Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon, Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department was the chief guest, while Dr ZA Chatt, Director Colleges, Higher Education Department was the guest of honour.
The event was judged by three eminent jury members comprising of Dr Lochan Dass, Ex-Director Accounts and Treasuries, Finance Department, Dr Geetanjali Rana, Dean School of Humanities, Cluster University of Jammu and Pawan Sharma, Financial Advisor, Cluster University of Jammu.
The event was also graced by Deans of different faculties of Cluster University of Jammu, Nodal Principal, Principal of various colleges, besides faculty members and students.
The chief guest while distributing the certificates and prizes highlighted the essence of organizing such declamation contest for stimulating the arousal of interest in competitive events.
Guest of honour, Dr Chatt, Prof Surinder Gupta, Observer and Dr Geetanjali Rana, Jury Member also shared their views on the occasion.
Earlier Dr. Kaushal Smotra, Principal, Govt. PG College for Women Gandhi Nagar presented welcome address.
An impressive and colourful cultural programme was also displayed by the students of Music Department on the occasion.
The First Prize was begged by Kaneez Fatima of Govt PG College for Women Gandhi Nagar, while 2nd and 3rd position was bagged by Sangriya of GCW Parade and Nazish Wani of GDC Doda respectively. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd consolation prizes were awarded to Preeti Jamwal of Govt College for Education, Jammu, Kajal Pathania of GDC and Bhubnesh Pargal of GDC Samba.
The vote of thanks was presented by Simran Dogra, President of College.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Shriya Baru, Shivangi Gupta, Maheen and Bhaviya.
