Family planning programmes have not been successful in India. There is a deliberate silence on this burning issue. Another problem is the urban-rural divide which has resulted in cities becoming overcroweded. Unconstrained population growth would have a negative impact on the ecological balance of the country. The Government should come up with a strict national population policy which should apply to one and all. The terrifying and uncontrolled growth rate in population would lead to lower productivity and effect the economy of the country as a whole.
