Poonch Link-up Day celebrated

POONCH, Nov 22: White Knight Corps joined hands with the locals of Poonch to celebrate the historic `Poonch Link up Day’ with characteristic gaiety and fervour here today.
The day marks the historic link up carried out by Brig Pritam Singh’s forces with Brig Yadunath’s forces from Rajouri at Danna Ka Pir on Nov 21, 1948.
Lt Gen Saranjeet Singh, GOC White Knight Corps commemorated the day by laying wreath at `Naman Sthal’, the War Memorial at Poonch. He was joined by veterans, senior Army officials, Civil Administrators, local politicians and the people of Poonch along with the school children in laying wreaths and remembering the supreme sacrifice of the soldiers defending Poonch, this day in 1948.
A slew of events were conducted in run up to the historic day. Sporting events such as Poonch Volleyball Championship, Hockey Tournament for girls and boys and educational and artistic events such as painting and singing competition as part of the talent hunt for youth of Poonch were held. Various welfare events were also organised such as eye camp, mobility equipments distribution camp and artificial limb fitment camp.
A series of cultural events kept the crowd spellbound at the Natu Auditorium, wherein children of six schools namely Christ School, Jamia Zia-Ul-Uloom School, Sheesh Mahal Girls Higher Secondary School, Girls Pahari Hostel, Guru Nank Academy and Gujar Girls Hostel, Poonch put up their exhilarating cultural programmes. Govt Degree College Poonch and Higher Secondary School, Mandi displayed various innovations which were immensely appreciated by all.
Commander Poonch Brigade, MLC Pradeep Sharma, senior Civil and District Police officials gave away  prizes to the talented children. The event was also graced by  Shah Mohd Tantray, MLA, Poonch along with Tariq Ahmed Zargar, Deputy Commissioner, Poonch and Principal Degree College, Poonch besides prominent citizens and a large gathering of people of Poonch.
