JAMMU, Oct 21: National Police Day, popularly known as Police Commemoration Day was observed across Jammu and Kashmir, wherein the martyrs were remembered for their sacrifice for the nation.
Pertinently, on October 21, 1959, ten police personals got martyred in an attack by the Chinese troops on Indo-China border in Ladakh region. On November 28, 1959, the Chinese troops handed over the mortal remains of these martyred policemen to India. Their cremation was held with full police honors at Hot Springs in Ladakh. Since then the National Police Day is observed every year to commemorate the sacrifices of policemen.
JAMMU: National Police Day was observed at Police Martyrs Memorial, Railway Station Jammu and Police Training Ground, Gulshan Ground to pay rich tributes to all martyrs of police force, who made supreme sacrifice in line of duty for unity and integrity of nation. About 6 contingents of police and paramilitary forces participated in the Commemoration Day parade at the Gulshan Ground Jammu, where the main function was organized. Dr Nirmal Singh, DyCM was the chief guest, who paid tributes to the martyrs along with Minister of State for Tourism and Education Priya Sethi, Legislators Romesh Arora, Vikram Randhawa, GL Raina, Krishan Lal, Gagan Bhagat, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr M K Bandhari, IGP Jammu Dr SD Singh Jamwal, Deputy Commissioner Jammu Kumar Rajeev Ranjan besides senior officers, local representatives, veterans along with family members and relatives of the martyrs. The names of martyrs of last one year were read by IGP Dr Jamwal. After Commemoration Day Parade, interaction session was held with the family members of martyrs in order to familiarize them about the schemes, which have been launched by the Government for the welfare of NoKs of martyrs. They were assured that J&K Police is always standing shoulders to shoulders with them and eager to help to NoKs of police martyrs. The gifts have been distributed among the NoKs of martyrs as a token of respect to them. On the occasion, a plantation drive as well as blood donation camp were organized, wherein around 60 police personnel including members of Team Jammu and others donated the blood. Meanwhile, Police Commemoration Day was observed by Mohalla Welfare Committee Bakshi Nagar to pay tributes to martyr Dheeraj Kohli, a resident of Bakshi Nagar. On the occasion SDPO West Pranav Mahajan and SHO Ashwani Sharma were also present and paid tributes to martyr in presence of member of Mohalla Welfare Committee Bakshi Nagar and social worker Karandeep Singh Lucky, martyr’s brothers–Narinder Kohli and Sanjeev Kohli, Ajay Kohli Lovely, Jimmy, Sunil, Satpal, Satish Diwakar, Raju Vasu and other prominent persons. However, Police Commemoration Day was observed at 66 Battalion SSB Paloura. Manvendra DIG SSB and Ajay Kumar Commandant along with other officers and jawans paid homage to martyrs by observing wreath laying ceremony. Guard of honour was given to those who laid down their lives for the honour of country.
SAMBA: National Police Day was observed by District Police Samba at DPL Shah Balode Samba in which a large number of citizens and officers and officials of District Police Samba, Army, PMF and District Administration participated. A Police Commemoration Day parade was held in the memory of martyrs. Anil Magotra SSP Samba paid rich tribute to the martyrs, followed by wreath lying ceremony. Chander Parkash Ganga, Minister for Industries and Commerce was the chief guest on the occasion, while Rashpal Verma, MoS, Vice Chairman OBC Board and Devinder Manyal, MLA Samba were the guest of honour. Later interaction with NoKs of martyr was held and gift items were distributed among them.
UDHAMPUR: On National Police Day, a commemoration parade was organised at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur. Mohammad. Sulaiman Salaria, IGP, Director SKPA Udhampur, other senior police officers, staff members and 793 trainees paid homage to martyrs. Meanwhile, Police Commemoration Day parade was organised at DPL Udhampur. MLA Udhampur Pawan Gupta was the chief guest, while Virender Sharma, DIG, Udhampur-Reasi Range presided over the function. All the families of police martyrs of District Udhampur besides retired police personnel, prominent citizens and distinguished guests were also present on the occasion. After the guard of honour, floral tributes were paid at Shaheedi Smarak by the family members of police martyrs, prominent citizens, retired police personnel and distinguished guests. As a token of remembrance, gift packs were given to all the NoKs of police martyrs by District Police Udhampur. Rayees Mohammad Bhat, SSP Udhampur, Faisel Quershi Additional SP, Charanjeet Singh, SDPO Chenani, Shakeel Rehman Bhat, DySP DAR and many others were also present on the occasion. A blood donation camp in cooperation with District Hospital Udhampur was also organized, in which many police personnel donated blood.
REASI: 58th Police Commemoration Day was observed at the District Police Lines, Reasi. SSP Reasi, Tahir Sajad Bhat laid the wreath at the martyrs’ memorial erected inside the DPL campus. The function was attended by the families of martyrs, respectable citizens of Reasi, besides Varinder Manhas Additional SP Reasi, Naresh Singh Additional SP Katra, Nikhil Gogna DySP Headquarters Reasi, Satish Bhardwaj DySP DAR Reasi, Mohammad Aslam SDPO Arnas and RS Bandral CPO Reasi.
KATRA: GRP Katra recalled the police martyrs who laid down their lives for the sake of country while performing official duties on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day. SSP Railways Katra Ranjit Singh Sambyal paid rich tribute to the martyrs at Martyrs Memorial GRP Lines Katra. The function was attended by the officers of CRPF, RPF, Railway Department, officers and officials of GRP Katra and prominent citizens of the locality.
RAJOURI: District Police Rajouri observed the 58th National Police Day here at District Police Lines Rajouri. On the occasion, Chairman for the Board for Development of Pahari Speaking People Kuldeep Raj Gupta, Legislators Qammar Hussain, Ravinder Raina and Vibdoh Gupta, DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range Deepak Slathia, SSP Rajouri Yougal Manhas, Additional SP Mohammad Yousuf, Additional SP Nowshera, Master Pops, SDPOs and SHOs, family members of the martyred police personals and respectable citizens of Rajouri town were present. On the occasion, interactions were also held with the family members of such policemen and they were honored by the district police. A blood donation camp was also organized in which Assistant Commandant CRPF 72 Battalion Prince Bhardwaj and 11 other police and CRPF volunteers donated blood. One youth leader Tazeem Dar also donated blood. Similarly, a function to remember police martyrs namely SI Farooq Hussain, ASI Mohd Din, SPO Abdul Majeed, L/SPO Salima alias Khalida Parveen, SPO Safdar Hussain and SPO Tufail Hussain was held at Government HSS Thanamandi, in which students of the School, teaching staff, SDM Thanamandi, SDPO Thanamandi, SHO Thanamandi, families of police martyrs and respectable of locality were present. On the occasion SSP Rajouri, Yougal Manhas was thed chief guest, who encouraged the speakers with cash reward of Rs 1100 each to 12 students, who highlighted the sacrifice of police martyrs. A similar function was held at Government HSS Kakora Kalakote, in remembrance of police martyr namely HC Abdul Rashid, SgCt Lal Hussain, Constable Arshad Mahmood and Constable Mohammad Yousaf. Additional SP Rajouri Mohammad Yousaf was chief guest on the occasion. The function was attended by Tehsildar Manjakote Mahmood Khan, SDPO Manjakote Dr Imtyaz Choudhary, SHO Manjakote, school staff and students and respectable of the locality and families of police martyrs. 7 students of Government HSS Kakora also highlighted the role of martyrs and all the speaker students were encouraged with cash prizes of Rs 1100 each. A function was held at Government HSS Peeri, in remembrance of police martyr namely HC Noor Hussain and HC Gulzar Hussain. DySP Operations Rajouri, Sukhdev was chief guest, while students, school staff, families of martyrs and respectable of area were also. On the occasion, 4 students who highlighted the role and sacrifice of martyrs were encouraged with Rs 1100 each.
POONCH: Police Commemoration Day was observed here by District Police at DPL ground. Rajiv Pandey SSP Poonch took the salute of the Commemoration Day Parade. MLA Haveli Shah Mohammad Tantray, MLC Yashpal Sharma, MLC Pardeep Sharma, Ex MLC Jahangir Mir, Deputy Commissioner Poonch Tariq Ahmed Zargar, Commander 93 Infantry Brigade AS Penderker, Additional SP Poonch Anwar-ul-Haq, district police officers and officials, various district officers, members from Poonch Bar Association, people from different walks of life and families of martyrs were also present on the occasion. Later, trees were also planted at the DPL ground by the families of martyrs and other dignitaries.
DODA: Police Commemoration Day was observed at District Police Lines, Doda. The programe was witnessed by the NoKs of police martyrs and other officers of police, paramilitary and civil administration. The contingents of CRPF 76th Battalion, IRP 5th Battalion and District Police Doda participated in the commemoration day parade. Floral tributes were paid to martyrs by Mohammad Shabir, SSP Doda, other dignitaries and beloved of martyrs. Deputy Commissioner Doda, Bhawani Rakwal, CO 10 RR AP Singh, Additional SP Headquarters Doda Vinay Kumar, SP Operations Doda Ravinder Pal Singh, DySP Hqrs Doda Iftkhar Ahmed, DySP DAR DPL Doda Nazir Ahmed Ganai and respectable of the area were also present.
KISHTWAR: National Police Day was observed at District Police Lines Kishtwar. SSP Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary took the salute of the Commemoration Day parade. Brigade Commander, 9 Sector RR Rohan Anand, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar AS Rana, Commandants and 2ICs of Army and CAPF, local police personnel, respectables, NoKs of the martyrs, territorial officers of police, officers of civil administration and GM NHPC also attended the function.
SRINAGAR: Nation Police Day was observed at Armed Police Complex Zewan where contingents of different forces including Police, SDRF, CRPF and BSF participated in the parade. Minister for Revenue, Rehabilitation and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Rehman Veeri was the chief guest, while Deputy Speakers Legislative Council Nazir Ahmad Khan, Minister of State for Forest, Ecology, Environment, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Cooperative and Fisheries, Mir Zahoor, Minister of State for Hajj and Auqaf (Independent charge), Syed Farooq Andrabi, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Secretary BB Vyas, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmed Khan and other senior officers of police and civil administration were also present. Sacrifices of the martyrs, who laid down their lives in the service of the nation, were remembered and wreaths were laid at the martyr’s memorial. Families of the martyrs were also present on the occasion. Blood donation camp was held where a number of jawans and officers donated the blood.
ANANTNAG: Police Commemoration Day was observed at DPL in which DIG, South Kashmir Range SP Pani, SSP Anantnag, Altaf Ahmad Khan, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Mohammad Younis and other senior officers of police and civil administration participated and paid rich tribute to the police martyrs. MLA Shangus, Dooru, senior citizens, besides families of martyrs were also present also. A blood donation camp was also held where jawans and officers donated 53 points of blood. In Awantipora, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama the Commemoration Day was observed where senior officers of police, security forces, civil administration and people from different walks of life participated and remembered the sacrifices of martyrs.
GANDERBAL: SSP Fayaz Ahmad Lone, Additional SP Ganderbal Fayaz Hussain, DySP Headquarters Ganderbal Dr Rameez Raja, DySP DAR Ghulam Hassan Bhukhari, SDPO Kangan Umar Shah, other police officers and officials paid floral tributes to police martyrs during National Police Day.
BUDGAM: SSP and DC Budgam led the officers of police, security forces, civil administration and paid floral tribute to the martyrs during National Police Day
HANDWARA: SSP Handwara Ghulam Jeelani Wani, DySP DAR Farooq Ahmad, DySP Operations Handwara Manish Kumar, DySP Kralgund Tariq Masqood and other officers and jawans of Police and CRPF paid tribute to the martyrs during Commemoration Day at DPL Handwara.
BANDIPORA: Police Commemoration Day was observed at DPL here where DDC Bandipore, SSP Bandipore, Commandant CRPF 3rd Battalion, officers of Army and civil administration, Principals of various educational institutes participated and paid tribute to the martyrs.
SOPORE: SSP Sopore, ADC Sopore, CRPF and Army Commandants, principals of various schools and prominent citizens attended the Commemoration Day function at DPL and remembered the supreme sacrifices of the policemen.
BARAMULLA: Commemoration Day function was also held here where police heads led the officers of police, army and security forces paid floral tribute to the martyrs.

LEH: District Police Leh observed National Police Commemoration Day at DPL Choglamsar. The observation commenced with general parade, guard of honour, followed by two minutes silences in memory of martyrs. Later wreath laying ceremony was held in which police officer headed by SSP, retired police officer, family members and relatives of martyrs participated. SSP Sargun Shukla and outgoing SSP Udhay Bhaskar Billa readout the names of martyrs paramilitary officers and jawans who attained martyrdom while discharging their duties. Additional SP Stanzin Losal, SP CID Sonam Deachen, CRPF Commandant Rigzen Angmo, DySP, SHOs and other police officer, jawans and kins of martyrs were also present.
KARGIL: National Police Day was observed by District Police Kargil at District Police Lines. Additional SSP Kargil, Arun Gupta paid tributes to the martyrs in presence of Executive Councillor LAHDC Mohammad Ameer, Deputy Commissioner Kargil Gulzar Hussain, Principal District and Session Judge RK Bhagat, CO 22 Jatt, JS Gill, retired DIG and Ex-MP GH Khan, Deputy SP Headquarters Kargil Ishtyaq A Kacho, DySP DAR Regzin Sandup, police and army officers, prominent citizens, retired police personnel, staff and students of Police Public School Kargil. Mother of martyr Constable Zulfikar Ali who laid down his life during anti militancy operation in Srinagar in the year 2009 was also present and a gift was presented to her as a token of honour by District Police Kargil.
