SRINAGAR, June 29: Prime Minister, Narendra Modi today held his 13th monthly video conference under his Pro-active Governance and Timely Implementation (PRAGATI) initiative, with Union Secretaries of various Ministries and Chief Secretaries of States.
Chief Secretary J&K, B R Sharma also participated in the video conference.
Prime Minister reviewed the progress of various Central projects and programmes including the Solar Pumps programme.
Union Secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Upendra Tripathy informed the Prime Minister that India is a world leader in solar water pump use, for both irrigation and drinking water, with about 77385 pumps in operation across the country as of now. He said 10 States have already achieved 100% targets in this regard.
Solar pumps mostly substitute for diesel and electric pumps used by farmers to pump water to their fields.
Prime Minister called for giving impetus to this renewable energy programme so that farmers across all States receive the intended benefits through use of solar pump sets.
Prime Minister also reviewed the flood preparedness of States with regard to the onset of South West Monsoon in the Country that prevails from June to September. Prime Minister received brief regarding the steps being taken by the States and various Central Ministries in this regard.
