Plus 2 Lecturers highlight demands, grievances

UDHAMPUR, Nov 19:  The monthly meeting of the District Udhampur unit of All J&K Plus 2 Lecturers’ Forum was held here today  under the chairmanship of Ashok Sharma, District president of the Forum.
In the meeting, the speakers expressed concern over the existence of large number  of vacancies of different cadres of the teaching and non teaching staff in various schools falling in rural areas and demanded that these vacancies be filled up at the earliest. They rued that with such a large no. of vacancies and attachments of a large no. of teachers in various offices and schools in or around cities and towns, the dream of achieving academic excellence was becoming a distant reality. Moreovers, transfers of teaching staff at in the mid session and conduct of trainings throughout the academic session have also affected the academic activities in the schools, they said and urged the Minister for Education to intervene and ensure that all the attachments except those on medical grounds are cancelled and adequate academic staff is posted in schools in rural and hilly areas.
They also demanded rationalisation of staff in the schools in accordance with the roll of students of schools, adequate focus on elementary education and the review of the system of examinations of 5th to 9th classes .
The lecturers in Physical  Education,  present in the meet,  resented that their original documents have been lying with the Department of Youth Services and Sports for about two years for verification but neither they were  regularized nor their original documents were   returned. They demanded their regularisation and refixation of their pay to bring them at par with lecturers in other disciplines.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashok Sharma urged the other teachers’ organizations to come forward and get united to apprise the Government about the ground realities existing in schools, especially in the rural and hilly areas so that adequate steps are taken and the academic activities are run properly in such schools and the dream of academic excellence is achieved.
Those who addressed the meeting,  included Arunesh Kumar, Ram Murti, Karnail Singh, Ashwani Kumar, Virender Kumar, Mohan Lal Sharma, Ravi Kanchan, Luxmi Kant, Parjesh  Kumar, Hari Prasad Sharma and others.
