PHE employees protest, demand release of wages

SRINAGAR, July 10: Daily wagers of Public Health and Engineering Department today protested against non-release of pending salaries and regularizing their jobs.
Under the banner of All Jammu and Kashmir PHE ITI trained and Contingent paid Workers Association, the employees gathered at the Press Enclave here and raised slogans in favor of their demands. The protesting employee said the daily wagers have not been provided salaries for last 18 months.

“The daily wagers holding ITI diploma are without salaries and that has affected their families as they have no other source of income,” President of the Association, Tanveer Hussain, said adding they have been demanding regularization of their services for last several years but to no avail.
He said the delay in salaries have affected the education of their children. “We are unable to pay the tuition fee of our children. We fear for their future. If the authorities continue to delay our salaries we will be forced to stop sending children to schools,” he said. He threatened to launch statewide protests if their salary was not released shortly.
The protestors demanded implementation of SRO 520 that would ensure the timely release of their salaries and regularization of services.
