JAMMU, Sept 1: Seeking end to politics of deceit and deception, Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today observed that public opinion can be hoodwinked by raising emotive slogans and generating hype over trivial issues for once but not always.
“People are no more interested in rhetoric, they want peace and a tolerant society which assimilates every point of view”, Mr Rana said while addressing functionaries of National Conference Jammu and Jammu Rural at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here this afternoon.
He said National Conference believes in issue based politics with thrust on public welfare and development. “These are the essentials of a harmonious society where each one, irrespective of caste, creed, colour or region, can live with a sense of dignity and has access to opportunities for progress”, he said while castigating those who are creating unwarranted apprehensions by raising different bogies.
The Provincial President stressed the need for peace and unity among people, saying this is imperative for sustaining the process of development initiated which got impetus during the past six years. He gave an overview of the measures taken with regard to ensuring infrastructural development, improving public utility services, generating employability and making administration accountable and responsive to the needs of the people.
He said Chief Minister Omar Abdullah gave a new dimension to governance by involving people in decision making and ensuring that fruits of development reaches the targeted segments of society in a time bound manner. “The achievements of the past six years are real strength of the party with which it will go to electorate and seek mandate for carrying forward the developmental agenda with renewed vigour”, he added.
