KATHUA, May 29: The irate people blocked Jammu –Pathankot National Highway for over three hours this afternoon protesting against hit and run accident near Dreamland Park Kathua last week in which a lady received serious injuries and later lost her life late last night at Super-Specialty Hospital Katra where she was shifted for treatment.
The irate people along with the dead body of lady squatted on the National Highway at Kalibari Chowk and did not allow any vehicle to pass resulting into a huge traffic jam on the Highway.
The protesters raising slogans against the administration said that the number of hit and run accidents is increasing day by day on NH and police has failed to arrest the culprits. They demanded immediate arrest of motor cyclist who hit the lady at Dreamland Park recently and fled after the accident.
The poor lady identified as Anju Bala, wife of Harminder Singh of Ludhiana Punjab presently at Ward 15 Kathua was strolling near Dreamland Park Kathua while a motorcyclist hit her.
The lady was first taken to DH Kathua where from doctors referred her to GMC and later she was shifted to Super-Specialty Hospital Katra from GMC in view of the grievous injuries received by her but in the Hospital she died late last night.
The dead body was handed over to family by the hospital authorities after post mortem. The family members and relatives instead of taking lady for cremation squatted on NH at Kalibari Chowk with dead body and protested. In the meanwhile the people of Ward 15 and adjoining areas also joined them and blocked the NH for three hours.
The Highway blockade was only lifted after the intervention of ASP Kathua, Khalil Poswal,Tehsildar, Kathua and Dy SP Headquarter who assured the protesters that with the help of CCTV fitted near Dreamland Park police will try to locate the motorcyclist and arrest him.
The Kathua Police has also registered  a case under Section 304 RPC in hit and run case and started investigation. Meanwhile DC Kathua Ramesh Kumar has also assured help from administration to the family of victim.
