PDD daily wagers’ strike continues

JAMMU, Dec 2: The PDD Daily Wagers continued their protest dharna/ strike  outside the office of  Development Commissioner Power (DCP)  at  Janipur on the fifth consecutive day today.
The agitating  workers led by Surjeet Kjajuria, president of  PDD Daily Wagers Union  (Jammu province) started  `Kam Chhor Hartal’ on  November  28.  Today, was the 5th  day of the strike and protest dharna.  The workers are sitting on indefinite dharna outside the office of  DCP at Janipur.  Many workers  from various PDD Divisions and Sub Divisions are sitting on protest dharna.
The protesting workers  were shouting slogans in support of their demand of regularization and enhancement of their wages besides clearance of all the pending wages. They were also demanding the release of their wages in time. They strongly demanded that discrimination with the daily wagers from Jammu region be stopped and they should be treated at par with those from Kashmir region.
Addressing gathering , Mr Khajuria said that concerned authorities have  given only fake assurances but not even a single daily wager has been regularized. He said that the protest dharna and strike would be continued till their demands are addressed by the Government. Several other union leaders also addressed the gathering. He said for the last five days, the workers are on strike but unfortunately no one from the Government or even senior officer from the PDD has visited them. Bharat Singh, chairman of the Union also addressed the gathering.
