PCC joins nation-wide fast, stages protest

JAMMU, Apr 9: As a part of the nationwide call of Congress Party, the PCC  leaders and prominent workers observed ‘Upwas’ (fast) here today over the current social tensions in the country ever since the present BJP Govt took over in the country.
AICC president,  Rahul Gandhi had given a call to party men to observe nationwide fast today at all state headquarters and district headquarters  with an aim to promote  inter- people, inter- community and inter-caste harmony.
The prominent functionaries and senior leaders of the party held a day long fast and dharna  at Shahidi Chowk Jammu which was led by Sham Lal Sharma- senior vice president and attended by vice presidents Raman Bhalla, S.Gurmukh Singh, Kanta Bhan, RS Chib, chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, general secretaries -Vikram Malhotra, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Manmohan Sigh, SS Channi, Namrata Sharma, Hilal Shah, Mahila wing president Indu Pawar (Ex-MLA), Ex-MLAs  Shiv Dev Singh, Prof Gharu Ram, Krishan Lal Gupta, YB Sharma besides others.
Addressing the gathering  Sham Lal Sharma  said that ever since the present Government came to power, it has covertly as well as overtly functioned to exploit and vitiate the social fault lines that had been created during colonial period and had been painstakingly bridged by the congress party during the last 70 years. The Congress Party is extremely perturbed by the state of unprecedented social tension and increasing inter societal distress existing in the country.
In view of this situation Congress party has come to the forefront to create an harmonious situation in the society by seeking the tension of the country men to the prevailing scenario.    He said that state is also passing through worst situations due to the opportunist alliance of PDP-BJP, who have created an atmosphere of discord and disharmony in the three region.
Raman Bhalla lashed out at the divisive policies of the PDP-BJP Government which has disturbed social fabric of the state especially Jammu region. The atmosphere in the state has been vitiated due to wrong policies of the PDP-BJP and BJP has totally failed to represent the aspiration of the people of the Jammu region.
Ravinder Sharma briefed about the agenda of the day long “upwass” as the prevailing situation of social tensions has disturbed every right thinking citizen. He said Congress party believes in the principles of mutual respect and compassion based on ancient civilization of this country.
Prominent among others who participated in dharna included Vikram Malhotra, Pranav Shagotra (PYC), Satish Sharma, Rajvir Singh, Chetan Wanchoo, Gurdarshan Singh (Minority), Shashi Sharma, Hari Singh Chib, Thomas Khoker, Mohd Sultan Mandoo, Suresh Bargotra, Ch Sukhdev Singh, Gourav Chopra, Amrit Bali, Ricky Dalotra, Kapil Singh, Vandhna Sharma, Suman Choudhary, Santosh Majotra, Jai Singh, Sushma Choudhary, Pardeep Bhagat, PS Chowhan, Dr RK Khajuria, Naresh Maini and Chanchal Popli.
Meanwhile, PCC  today organized various programmes in Kashmir valley against the atrocities committed on Dalits, socially backward classes and other minorities living in the country and lodged strong protest against the anti-minority policies adopted by BJP- RSS in the country.
As a part of its nation-wide programme, the party observed daylong fast to promote harmony amongst various sections of society.  In the backdrop of atrocities committed on Dalits,  Advasis and other minority communities,  senior Congress leaders and workers of District Anantnag and Kulgam held a joint programme at Kahanabl to protest against the BJP- RSS for adopting anti- people polices and expressed serious concern over the deteriorating situation across the country.
The function was presided over by MLA Shangus Gulzar Ahmad Wani and addressed by senior leaders. Expressing anguish over the wrong and anti-people policies adopted by the BJP- RSS, the Congress leader alleged that communal harmony in the country  was in great threat under NDA rule.
Meanwhile, DCC Kathua led by PCC general secretary, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma  and Ex-MLC, Subash Gupta (Distt president)  observed one day fast at Mukherjee Chowk, Kathua today. A large number of DCC and BCC members participated in the protest dharna. Both the leaders also addressed the gathering.
In Poonch, DCC president, Rajinder Singh Kaka led the protest dharna at district headquarters.  Similar programmes were  held in other district headquarters across the State.
