RAJOURI, Apr 23: Sarpanchs and Panchs from Thannamandi area held strong protest demonstration against police and blocked road for over one and half hour at main Shahdara Sharief Morh in Thannamandi town.
They were demanding arrest of the accused responsible for attack on Sarpanch Gulzar Hussain from Alal village in Thannamandi. Sarpanch was allegedly attacked by some Sumo agents at Shahdara Morh Chowk last evening and was seriously injured. Rs 3 lakh was also snatched by the accused persons. He was later hospitalized.
Today a large number of Sarpanchs and Panchs along with hundreds of local villagers arrived at Thannamandi and reached the office of SDPO. After some heated arguments with the Police officers, the agitating Panchayat members then moved to main chowk and then blocked road at around 1.30 pm. They were shouting slogans against Police for its failure to arrest the accused.
Later, Tehsildar Thannamandi reached there and tried to convince them to lift dharna and clear road. He also talked to DC Rajouri who also assured the agitating Sarpanchs to take up the issue with the SP. Sarpanch Mir Bagh from Plandhar, Jungbad from Pangai, Munshi Khan, Kaham Din and Ch Mohd Hussain warned to intensify agitation if police failed to arrest accused persons and recover snatched money.
