Pak should follow int’l law in dealing with terrorists like Hafiz Saeed

NEW DELHI:  India on Friday said there was consternation in Pakistan in the aftermath of the last month’s release of Hafiz Saeed, mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, from the house arrest. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said that Hafiz Saeed remained an internationally proscribed terrorist and his release only showed Pakistan’s lack of seriousness in bringing perpetrators of terrorism to justice.

Hafiz Saeed has been designated by the United Nations as well. “It is our demand that Pakistan should follow internationally laid down law in such cases,” the spokesperson added.

India had earlier expressed its outrage over Hafiz Saeed’s release, saying it only reflected that Pakistan was continuing its support to non-state actors.

The MEA spokesperson reiterated that it was the responsibility of the Pakistan Government to fulfill its international obligations and take credible and effective action against terrorists like Hafiz Saeed who heads the banned outfit Jama’at-ud-Da’wah. (AGENCIES)
