Pak receives Indian Govt’s response on ‘offer’ to Jadhav

NEW DELHI: Pakistan on Saturday confirmed receiving Indian Government’s response on Islamabad’s offer to allow Kulbhushan Jadhav to meet his wife.  “Indian Reply to Pakistan’s Humanitarian offer for Commander Jadhav received and is being considered,” Dr Mohammad Faisal, spokesman in Pakistan Foreign Office said in a tweet.

After consistently denying requests from the Indian government for consular access to detained Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav, the Pakistan government on November 10 said that it has informed the Indian High Commission in Islamabad that it would allow him to meet his wife. The Pakistan government also issued a ‘note verbale’ – diplomatic correspondence in third person – to this effect.

“The government of Pakistan has decided to arrange a meeting of Jhadav with his wife in Pakistan, purely on humanitarian grounds,” Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesman Mr Faisal has said.  Jadhav is facing death sentence on the charge of espionage.

In May this year, India moved the International Court of Justice against the death sentence and ultimately on May 18, the ICJ restrained Pakistan from executing the death sentence.

The case is again expected to be heard in January next year. (AGENCIES)
