SAMBA, Apr 14: A strong protest was held at Nud area of Samba against the bovine smuggling today. People of the block Nud said that some members of Gujjar community left towards hilly area yesterday night with 19 bovine animals.
They said after the local residents of the area saw the movement of Gujjar community members they asked them where they were taking the animals during night hours. But instead of answering the query the Gujjars tried to attack them.
Later a police party led by SHO Samba Yashpal Singh Jamwal reached the spot and tried to solve the issue but the locals protested saying their religious sentiments have been hurt with the action and they will not allow smuggling of bovine animals especially cows.
On the protest of people Police took all 19 bovines in its custody and handed over all of them to the local people of Nud under a suparad nama.
The protesters alleged that administration wanted to give the bovines back to the Gujjars which they did not allow.
The protesters also warned the administration to take strong action against the accused otherwise they will be forced to block the National Highway.
The protest was led by Lovly Sambyal (Sonu), Mohinder, Narinder Singh, Joginder Pal and Neeraj Sogra.
