NPP urges Governor to order probe into PSC functioning

JAMMU, June 18: Lambasting the Public Service Commission (PSC) for yet another obnoxious doze of discrimination in the select list of 10+2 Education Lecturers published in today’s papers, NPP chairman and former Education Minister Harsh Dev Singh described the entire process as farce urging upon the Govt at the same time to withhold all such select lists.
He pointed out that select list of 10+2 lecturers in Education subject as appearing in today’s media revealed that Jammu region has got merely three seats out of 25 in open merit and barely two out of nine in RBA category. With the highly opprobrious phenomenon of regional discrimination being perpetuated with impunity, the Jammu youth had completely lost faith in the present dispensation, he remarked.
Never before had any constitutional body come under such severe and scathing criticism as the JKPSC during the last two years. “Enough is enough” said Harsh appealing at the same time to the Governor to intervene U/S 130 of State Constitution and initiate action against the chairman and other members of the PSC in consonance with the powers vested in him under the State Constitution.
Seeking a reference by the Governor to the High Court as provided in Sec 130 (1) against the conduct of PSC members, Singh said that not only were the allegations of nepotism, favouritism, regional bias, and corruption levelled by various quarters against the PSC but there were further serious charges of irregularities including those of tempering of answer keys. He said that it was unheard that in a KAS exam, 24 questions/answers were reportedly wrongly marked in the official key of PSC. He said that it was for the first time in the history that PSC had to keep the exam schedule in abeyance which had led to the withdrawal of notification for main exams thus putting the careers of many aspirants in Jeopardy.  In view of defective question papers and answer keys, the credibility of the institution had been severely dented, Singh said.
Urging upon the Govt to seriously consider the demand of separate PSCs for Jammu and Kashmir provinces, Singh said that it was necessary to mollify the Jammu youth who were seething with anger against their blatant neglect in all select lists issued during last two years in particular. He said that till a decision in this regard was taken through an amendment of State Constitution, the pending selections needed to be kept on hold. He cautioned the BJP leaders that with the heat in Jammu fast turning into a furnace, their criminal silence would prove suicidal for them.
