NEW DELHI, July 8: Submitting a memo in the office of Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Venkaiah Naidu today, NPP chairman Harsh Dev Singh re-iterated the demand of Jammu Dogras for launch of a full fledged Duggar Satellite Channel in the region.
The memorandum submitted by the NPP leaders to the Union I&B Ministry strongly pleaded for the launch of Dogra Channel from Jammu, which is the strong and old demand of the people from ten districts of Jammu region.
“This is in continuation to the earlier petition filed by the NPP to erstwhile Union I&B Minister Arun Jaitley, seeking a Satellite Duggar Channel for Jammu. The people of Jammu had pinned high hopes in the BJP led NDA Govt at the Centre and expected a formal announcement in this regard but regretfully nothing of the sort happened. We, therefore, re-iterate our demand for a full fledged ‘Satellite Duggar Channel’ which is being projected by various social, cultural and literary organizations for the last several years unfortunately has gone unaddressed and unattended. While the operalization of Kashmir channel on DD Kashmir is welcome, the denial of Duggar Channel for Jammu is deplorable,” communiqué said.
It is pertinent to mention that the credit for raising the geographical and political state of Jammu and Kashmir and consolidation and securing of nationals boundaries goes to Dogras. Only last year 18 jawans of 6 Dogra regiment made the supreme sacrifice of their lives in Manipur for the defense of the Nation. Majority of Dogras have joined Armed forces and are fighting for the defense of our land and our flag. It will also be a tribute to our valiant Dogra soldiers and warriors who have made countless sacrifices with their conquests in the Himalayan region extending upto Tibet.
It is worthwhile to mention that ‘Duggar Channel’ if operationalized would cater to estimated 32,200 Sq Kms of area besides vast area of Himachal as well as huge population on the other side of LoC. On the contrary Kashir Channel is catering to only around 22,200 Sq Kms. Further, even the sister languages like Gojri, Mirpuri, Punjabi, Pahari, Poonchi and Bhaderwahi will also get a boost if Duggar Channel is made functional.
The NPP strongly demanded that in view of the long pending and most coveted demand of Jammu people, it is requested that the Ministry for I&B and Prasar Bharti must take immediate steps to meet the long pending demand of Dogras and launch an exclusive Duggar Channel in the Jammu region.
