No proposal to disband VDCs

JAMMU, Aug 19: A deputation of Rashtrawadi Shiv Sena (RSS) leaders led by  Vipin Hindu, Ashwani Gupta and Vikas Dewan today called on Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Shantmanu and submitted a memorandum to him demanding arrest of those persons involved in attack on minorities in Kishtwar recently and burning down of their properties. Besides, it expressed concern over reported move to disband Village Defense Committees (VDCs) in the State.
The memorandum, while eulogizing the role of VDCs in the State said they were doing a commendable job and have been mostly responsible in breaking the back of terrorist outfits who were active in the hilly reaches of Jammu region.
The Divisional Commissioner informed the delegation that there was no proposal regarding disbanding of VDCs. He also informed the RSS leaders that he will talk to the concerned officers about the release of people arrested under preventive measures, the release said.
The Sena leaders said as the situation has limped back to normal in Jammu there was no fun of keeping the youth behind the bars arrested under preventive measures.
