SRINAGAR, Apr 12: Reacting to burning of schools in south Kashmir, former chief minister Omar Abdullah said there is no justification, regardless of their motives, for the burning of schools and the denial of education to the younger generation.
“There is no justification, regardless of their motives, for the burning of schools and the denial of education to our younger generation,” Mr Abdullah, who is the working president of main opposition in the State National Conference (NC), wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
Meanwhile, reacting to a tweet which asked if the burning of schools were for ‘Aazadi’ or ‘ISIS type Islam’, Mr Abdullah said, “Actually schools (in fact any Govt structure) have been targeted for destruction since the onset of militancy (89-90). Much before ISIS.”
Two Government schools were torched few days back in Anantnag parliamentary constituency, where polling stations were established. However, the Election Commission (EC) deferred tomorrow’s bypolls in view of violent clashes in Budgam in Srinagar Lok Sabha seat on April 9.
Eight youth were killed and 150 others injured, including 100 security force personnel, in the clashes on Sunday.
