JAMMU, June 12: Natraj Natya Kunj (NNK), Cultural Society, Jammu today started a month-long Folk Theatre Workshop and interaction sessions at Studio Ranglok, Bakshi Nagar, here.
The Workshop is being sponsored by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Jammu.
The Workshop will focus on bringing about a better understanding of the intricacies of dying forms of Dogri Folk Theatre.
Experts from different fields of theatre will interact with students, deliver lectures, do demonstrations and will share their experience with the young aspirants.
Aaditya Bharti, an alumnus of Department of Indian Theatre, Punjab University, Chandigarh, is the Director of the Workshop.
Interacting with the students he explained, “This Workshop will help you to gain confidence and express yourselves in a better way. You will get to learn directly from artists who have been practising this art form professionally.”
President of NNK, Kumar A. ‘Bharti’ said that the group is conducting such type of Workshops to create a space for learning for both adults and children and to encourage them to relate to folk art. This workshop will help participants explore and improvise rhythm, movement and music.
Abhishek Bharti, PhD Scholar and National Sangeet Natak Akademi Yuva Awardee, who is also a resource person of this Workshop, said “I was introduced to Folk art 10 years back. Folk Artist’s costumes, their ability to use their body, the way the story is presented-all of these fascinated me and drove me to organise these kinds of Workshops.”
Dr. Rajinder Thapa, advisor of the group explained that the Workshop will focus on teaching dialogue delivery, singing, stage presentation, narration of stories and body language, within the framework of folk theatre.
