JAMMU, Feb 16: Employees working under centrally sponsored National Health Mission (NHM) today extended their strike for another 72 hours.
In view of curfew in Jammu city, only scores of NHM employees assembled at Exhibition Ground and continued their 34-day long protest in favour of their demands including regularization of services, implementation of ‘equal pay for equal work’ orders apart from accord to ‘social security benefits’.
Meanwhile, the hunger strike of employees also entered into 8th day, today. Sitting on hunger strike, Rohit Seth, president of NHM Employees’ Association, Jammu, said, “The protests are only meant to draw attention of the authorities. We want to go back to work but for that the Government has to pay heed to our pleas”.
“At this stage of life when we have dedicated 12 years of our service to the department there is no other alternative. We need a secure future as we cannot apply for fresh jobs or think of a career change at this stage”, he added. In the meantime, two NHM leaders namely Munir Andrabi and Azam who were sitting on hunger strike, were shifted to GMC Jammu after their condition deteriorated.
