National Statistics Day observed

JAMMU, June 29: To mark the National Statistics Day  a function was organised by the Department of Economics & Statistics in  the office of Director General, Directorate of Economics & Statistics  here today.
Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare was the theme of the programme in which Joint Director, Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Veena Thapar was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Thapar said that a reliable statistical base is essential pre-requisite for socio-economic planning, policy formulation and performance assessment of Government programmes and schemes.
She further said that collection and maintenance of agricultural statistics assumes special importance in India due to the dominant position of agriculture in our economy. The researchers validate the findings and formulate conclusions related to agriculture for the welfare of the farmers, she added.
The guest lectures were delivered by scientists and a scintillating cultural programme was also presented on  the occasion. Regional joint Director, Evaluation & Statistics, Rajni Charak and other senior officers of the department including CPOs and DSEOs were present in the programme.
