Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement that Kashmir floods were a national calamity, entire Indian nation has responded with solidarity and sympathy towards the flood ravaged State. Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and many other states have announced crores of rupees as donation to Kashmir relief fund. Apart from the States, some big business houses like Mahindra and Mahindra have also offered good deal of money by way of relief. The PM has said that more relief would be provided as dictated by circumstances. This all shows that the nation is now strong enough to face heaviest calamities on its own and will not approach any foreign agency for support.
BJP President has issued an appeal to party workers and sympathizers to raise funds for relief for the affected people. Congress Party is cobbling a committee to consider what it can do. It appears that the Modi Government may be intending to create Kashmir Relief Fund and if that happens millions of Indians will donate cash and kind by way of succour to the affected people. It is a very healthy sign that the entire nation is united to meet the calamity met by one of the states of the Union. This spirit of unity and compassion is welcome. It transcends all distinctions and differences and the element of humanism reigns supreme. We hail it as a precious gift of the nation.
