LEH, Sept 16: The Naropa Festival, a grand spiritual gathering has begun in Hemis, Ladakh to commemorate the 1000 plus years of Naropa. The Naropa Festival will be celebrated throughout the month of September at Naro Photang Hemis, Ladakh.
The programme began with national anthem and observance of two minutes of silence for the departed souls of Langna Rinpoche and Lamchok Rinpoche of Drukpa lineage who passed away in a fatal road accident in the recent past and prayed for their early reincarnation.
Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) LAHDC Dorjey Motup was the chief guest on the occasion. Gyalwa Dokhampa, Rinpoches from different parts of Ladakh and Bhutan, numbers of monks and nuns, Ambassadors and deputy heads of mission of Embassy of countries of South Korea, Italy, Republic of Poland, United States and Brazil and representatives of Je Khenpo of Bhutan and Royal Government, Kingdom of Bhutan, MP Ladakh Thupstan Tsewang, MLA Leh Nawang Rigzin Jora, EC LAHDC Gyal P Wangyal, EC Agriculture Tsering Wangdus, EC Tourism Tsering Wangdus, SSP T Gyalpo, Former CEC Rigzin Spalbar, Councillors, religious and political heads along with large number of devotees were also present on the occasion.
Co-Founder of Naropa Fellowhip Thuksay Rinpoche informed that the Naropa Fellowship began its first batch with more than 70 students from different parts of the country and the world.
CEC Dorjey Motup emphasized upon every student of Ladakh and Naropa Fellowship to ensure for gaining optimum benefit of knowledge from their respective institutions. He assured of every possible help from the Council.
On the occasion, Khamtak Rinpoche, Chairperson of the Organising Committee of the Naropa Festival, LBA President Tsewang Thinles and LGA President Shadup Chamba also expressed their views.
A series of books “Musings from the heart” written by Gyalwang Drukpa, and “Meaningful to behold: The Biography of the Glorious Guru” by Khenpo Shedup Tenzin were released. On the occasion, the 1st EDM Album of Ladakh titled “Rythem of the stars” was also released.
The programme was followed by cultural performances by cultural groups, school and fellowship students. Chosdo–a religious mantra recital performance by nuns of Druk Gawa Khil was also presented.
Himalayan Cultural programmes and Bollywood renowned singer Kailash Kher mesmerized the audience.
In the end, YDA President Rinchen Wacher presented the vote of thanks.
