JAMMU, Nov 5: The road linking Paloura to Janipur road near Dreamland school is closed since August this year when a stretch of it was swept away by flash flood in a deep and open nallah beside the road.
A stretch of about 50 m of the road near Bonn Bread Factory was completely damaged due to heavy rains and resultant flash flood in the nallah and since then this road is blocked for vehicular traffic completely.
In last three months, people of the area gave many representations to the JMC officials and UEED Department and ran from pillar to post with a request to repair the nallah and road but despite a lapse of three months, nothing was done by either of the departments.
“We approached every concerned person– local MLA, Municipal officers and UEED officers but everybody gave assurance and did nothing on the ground. Now we are doubtful whether there is any administration or not in the State and whether we are living in a municipal area or a far flung area”, a resident of the area said.
“In any medical emergency, we feel helpless as despite having our own four wheelers, we cannot shift our patients to hospital in them, as they are stranded in our houses due to blockage of road”, another resident said, adding when we are paying our taxes then we also expect good road and sanitary conditions but getting nothing.
Raju Bharti, another resident of the area said that on September 24, Executive Engineer, Sewerage & Drainage Division (West), Jammu on the instructions of the concerned MLA submitted the estimate of the construction/restoration of the nallah near Bonn Bread Factory to Superintending Engineer, sewerage & Drainage Circle, Jammu and sought release of Rs 48.89 lakh for the execution of work but even after the lapse of over a month, even a penny was not released by the authorities.
He said 33 KV power transmission line passing through the area can be damaged any time as some electric poles near the broken nallah has tilted due to sinking of earth. He appealed Governor SP Malik and his advisors to intervene into the matter and repair the broken nallah at the earliest so that the road linking Janipur road to Paloura may be opened for vehicular traffic.
