Munish Sharma calls on BKS office bearers

NEW DELHI, Nov 28: To revive Desi (local) Seeds of various crops in J&K State, Vice Chairman JAKFED, Munish Sharma along with Chairman J&K Cooperative Union, Rajesh Sharma called on office bearers of Bharatiya Krishak Samaj to discuss the promotion of the Desi Seed in farming at Delhi today.
Addressing the national gathering of Bhartiya Krishak Samaj (BKS) on Swadeshi seeds promotion, Vice Chairman, stressed on the need to popularize the promotion of various local food crops of Jammu & Kashmir at international market so that farmers could get good return. There is a need to explore markets in the country and abroad for Saffron, Basmati Rice, Spices and various agricultural produce, he added.
To promote State’s famous agricultural crops like desi Basmati, Rice of R.S. Pura, Rajmash beans of Bhaderwah & Kishtwar, Apples of Sopore, Saffron of Pampore, Pomegranate Seeds (Anardana) of Poonch, Potato of Gurez, Ginger & turmeric of Pouni, Reasi walnut of Srinagar, Red Rice of Tangdar & Apricot of Ladakh etc. as a brand are major exportable product in the State to compete in the national and international market,
Vice Chairman threw light on the RS Pura belt of Jammu region which is famous for producing the finest quality of Basmati rice. It has maintained superior position in the international market, he said.
“We should also take concrete measures to enhance the possibility of organizing exhibitions in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Calcutta, Chennai and Ahmedabad so that farmers who produce quality crop would be awarded.
In an attempt to turn farmers towards preserving and using the desi seeds, Munish Sharma, further urged Bhartiya Krishak Samaj, State vice president Naveen Kumar to hold such awareness campaign across the J&K to acquaint the farmers about the traditional crop diversity through promoting desi (local) seed practice. It has become extremely crucial to increase awareness about the desi seeds, their production, as these seeds require lesser water, & help to maintain the fertility of the soil and require lesser investment in pesticides. On the other hand Hybrid seeds, a product of modern agriculture, are highly susceptible to pests and diseases.
It is pertinent to mention here that Bhartiya Krishak Samaj, is one of the  largest farmers organization in India which works for the welfare of farmers community.
