Muharram processions taken out in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Sept 30: Large Muharram processions were today taken out by Shia mourners in multiple areas of the summer capital.
A procession was carried by the Shia mourners from Shamaswari area of Khankhah-e-Moulla and it ended at Baba Pora area of Habba Kadal. The mourners wearing black clothes or badges were reciting ‘Nawah’. Later in the afternoon, another Muharram procession was carried out in Gow Kadal area of Srinagar.
Witnesses said that the procession amid tight security started from Gow Kadal Bridge and culminated at Basant Bagh area. Mourners including women, men, children and old were seen wailing during the procession. They were also raising slogans in favor of Karbala martyrs.
On the occasion of ‘Ashura’ Day, a Muharram procession is expected to be carried out from Gulshan Bagh Bota Kadal to Zadibal area in downtown in which Shia mourners in thousands would participate and remember the sacrifices of Karbala martyrs. However, restrictions would be clamped in certain parts of the city to maintain law and order, a police official said.
