Mob kills man in Uri

SRINAGAR, Mar 18:  A man was killed by a mob in a remote village of Uri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district before being held hostage during a rescue operation to recover an abducted woman.
A police spokesman said this Wednesday, one Mushtaq Ahmad Khan of Kutroo village of Rafiabad area of Baramulla district lodged a written complaint in police station Panzla that his wife (name with held) who is also a mother of two children was kidnapped by one Ashiq of Paranpela village of Uri.
“Accordingly, a case under FIR number 08/2017 under section 366,109 RPC was registered in police station Panzala,” he said. Yesterday, a police party from Panzala accompanied by police party from police station Uri went to village ParanPeela of Uri to recover the kidnapped woman, the spokesman said.
“The police party from Panzala was also accompanied by two relatives of the complainant husband to identify the kidnapped woman. While the woman was being recovered from one of the houses a violent mob from the side of accused restored to intense violence and pelted stones upon police party and accompanying civilians from Rafiabad,” he said.
In the ensuing clashes some policemen and one civilian namely Bashir Ahmad Khan aged about 33 years of Rafiabad who was accompanying the police party from police station Panzala got injured, said the spokesman. “Bashir was taken hostage by accused. He was attacked by stones and lathis and was thrown into the Nallah. He died on spot,” the spokesman said.
The police spokesman said that postmortem of body is being conducted. “An FIR has been registered against the accused and investigation taken up,” he added.
