Addressing the protesting employees, Sandeep Kalotra,  provincial president of the Association, said that their strike today entered into 6th day and will continue in all the districts of the State till the demands of the Association like framing of job policy, 10 percent hike in the remuneration of contractual staff, focus on employment of women, grant of ex-gratia up to Rs five lakh to MGNREGA employee and contractual staff in the event of death during execution of work, Rs two lakh in the event of permanent disability and Rs 50,000 in case of partial disability, etc are not fulfilled.
Kalotra said that MGNREGA is India’s flagship programme run by thousands of qualified youth but till date Government is not serious to secure the future of such employees. He said recently Government framed a job policy for regularizing the services of all contractual, consolidated, casual and daily rated workers working in various departments but it is very unfortunate that MGNREGA employees were totally ignored.
He said that Government has always betrayed us, and added that few months back they called off the protest when the officials assured redressal of their demands but they failed to deliver on their promises. He said that if the Government fails to do anything this time, they will intensify their strike in coming days and will launch mega protest throughout the State.
Kalotra appealed all MGNREGA employees of the State to assemble and make the peaceful protest successful on December 18 at Press Club, Jammu.
