SAMBA, Dec 6: A team of the officers from Legal Metrology Department headed by Ajay Kumar Verma, Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba and Inspector Legal Metrology Samba Mohsin Khateeb conducted extensive checking of various business establishment at Bari Brahmana, Vijaypur, Swankha  Morh, Raya Morh and other adjoining  Areas.
During inspection more than 20 traders of different business establishments including provisional stores, Karyana shops, sweet shops, welding works, general stores, bakery units, dhabas and restaurants were inspected for their compliance with regards to various provisions of J&K Standard of  Weights and Measures Enforcement Act 2011 (Amended) and  Legal Metrology packages Commodities rules 2011.
During inspection four challans were booked for violation of various provisions of J&K Weights & Measures Enforcement Act 2011 (amended), Legal Metrology Packages Commodities Rules 2011, and other prevailing Legal Metrology Laws and Rules on the packages of rice, floor and mineral water. Notices were issued to these four   booked traders for attending the office of the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba for further legal proceedings.
Besides, two challans of the traders booked during the last month were compounded and the penalty of Rs 24000.00 was imposed on the request and assurance of the traders not to repeat the same discrepancies in future.
The  department  has directed all the traders to use only those weights and measures and weighing and measuring instruments for business transactions which have been duly verified and authenticated by the Legal Metrology Department and ensure that   Maximum Retail Price (MRP), Date of Packing (PKD), Net contents and complete address of the manufacturer/ packer  and consumer care  number have been declared  on the  commodities to be sold in package form as per PCR.
