Leh admn to lift ban on contract carriage permit to taxis

LEH, Apr 13: To meet the huge demand of commercial taxis, the district administration has decided to lift ban on contract carriage permit to vehicles including buses, taxis and mini buses.
Addressing press conference here, Deputy Commissioner Prasanna Ramaswamy G, who is also the Regional Transport Authority Chairman, said that keeping in view huge traffic congestion administration had decided not to issue any fresh permit this year. However, considering the problems being faced by the youth who already availed loan facility to buy taxis, administration has decided to issue permit this year for a limited period, he added.
He, however, made it clear that no new permit will be issued in future for next three years as Ladakh is already facing traffic chaos. He said that for the traffic management 100 kanals of land has been identified near Bomb Guard to relocate the existing parking spaces in the city for commercial vehicles and multilayer parking facility will be constructed in the city.
ARTO Khadim Hussain said that Regional Transport Authority Committee headed by Chairman Deputy Commiss-ioner Prasanna Ramaswamy G with SSP Udhay Bhaskar Billa and ARTO as members decided to issue permit with revised fees structure and Red Cross fee of Rs 5000 will be a contribution of new vehicle owners towards society which will be used for any social cause.
He said that there will be no permit to Van and Eco as they are misusing the permit plying illegally as stage carriage with the contract carriage permit.
