Legal Metrology imposes Rs 20,000 fine on Kapson

JAMMU, Jan 31: The Department of Legal Metrology fined M/s Kapson, a leading chain of garment store at Gandhi Nagar  to the tune of Rs. 20000 for deceiving the gullible consumers on the pretext of selling garments at particular sale discount offer.
According to Manoj Prabhakar Deputy Controller Consumer Protection, on the complaint of consumers, case was registered against the firm for overcharging more than reduced MRP offered by the company to the purchaser on the plea of additional VAT thereby deceiving consumer on the actual benefit than offered & agreed upon.
The stand of the department was that MRP is inclusive of all taxes including commission, transport charges& other expenses. No dealer or manufacturer can overcharge more than MRP on the pretext of additional taxes, may be it is the case of reduced MRP.
In pursuance to notice to the management of the company,the counsel of the company appeared & written assurance was given that no additional VAT will be charged & immediately the company has rectified on line billing system in all the chain stores accross country there by extending benefit to large number of consumers. The company applied for the composition & the case was compounded for Rs 20000.
