Srinagar, Apr 15: Legal Metrology Department has booked a number of erring traders for violating Legal Metrology laws in Kupwara district.
A statement of the department said its field executives under the supervision of Altaf Hussain Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology Kupwara, conducted extensive market checking of different markets of the district.
It said besides traders a truck carrying supplies of Plaster of Paris (POP) in bags of 18kg was intercepted by the team.
“The pre-packed bags were weighed in front of the people who gathered round the inspecting team, each bag was found lesser in weight by 1.5kg,” it said.
Inspector Legal Metrology, Suhail Ahmad, booked the Udhampur-based company for supplying under-weight POP bags to the Valley and slapped Rs 20,000 fine on it.
