Lack of coordination

Traffic on Shakuntala cinema to High Court crossing passing through New Plots remains extraordinarily congested for several reasons. This road serves as the main link for a very large chunk of population right up to Ban Talab and beyond. Many Government offices and organizations are located in the area and many new habitats have come up there. The second reason is that the road from Amphalla crossing to High Court crossing is very narrow. The bazaar through which the road passes is crowded overwhelmingly. There is also encroachment of footpath and all this has led to traffic hassles and congestions that have become a regular feature of the area.
In 2008 the idea of constructing a flyover from Shakuntala to Janipur was conceived by the authorities and work on the blue print began with all earnestness. It created a ray of hope among the inhabitants and shopkeepers of the area and they eagerly waited for the day when work on the project would start. However, as ill luck would have it, after the spade work was done and a blue print prepared, the entire scheme was shelved for reasons not known to us. The case of Government shelving the project has come to the Division Bench of the High Court in the shape of PIL. Some hearings of the case have revealed that there is lack of coordination among various departments and agencies which has led to the abandoning of the project without even taking the first step. The R&B Department has failed to take the possession of the land for last 13 years. It has not been able to deposit the amount of compensation which the land owners are to get as compensation for the land to be acquired by the Government for building the superstructure. The court has expressed its displeasure on the state of things saying that there is clear lack of coordination among the agencies involved in building the flyover like the Revenue Department, Municipal Corporation, R&B Department etc.
There is no second thought about the inconvenience caused to the people owing to traffic snarls on this important within city links. The project envisages the flyover from Shakuntala Cinema to the High Court crossing. It is one of the most congested streets in the city. This flyover should have been taken on priority basis to avoid congestion and logjams. Now that the case is with the court of law, it is expected that the court will direct the State authorities to initiate the construction of the flyover as that is the only way how this problem can be solved.
