Kerala Marketfed MD, Secy KCEF, People’s Party deputation call on Governor

SRINAGAR, June 10: The Managing Director of Kerala State Cooperative Marketing Federation,  Secretary of Kashmir Creative Education Foundation, deputation of J&K People’s Party and Director Lifelong Learning and Professor of History , Kashmir University today called on Governor N N Vohra at Raj Bhawan.
Tomin J Thanchankary, Managing Director, Kerala State Cooperative Marketing Federation Ltd (Kerala Marketfed) briefed the Governor, who is Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, about the activities of the Kerala State Cooperative Marketing Federation and its potential to serve the Shrine Board by supplying certain commodities produced and marketed by this Cooperative Federation.
The Governor suggested to Mr Thanchankary to have detailed discussions with Navin K Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor and Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board, who was present during the meeting.
Waheed-ur-Rehman, Secretary, Kashmir Creative Education Foundation, Pulwama briefed the Governor about the activities of the Foundation relating to enlarging legal awareness, promotion of education, youth activities and sports.
Mr Rehman, who is Chief Executive of the HBN Channel, also briefed the Governor about the various programmes telecast by this private local TV channel, particularly in South Kashmir, for spreading education and the message of peace and development.
The Governor observed that while the media has to play an important role in creating awareness among the people about the ongoing programmes and policies of the Government and in highlighting the problems and needs of the public at large, the most crucial role that a TV channel within the Valley can play would be to foster and extend the goals of a sound educational system, as this sector is required to play a vital role in reviving the society and restoring its erstwhile balance.  He added that private channels like HBN can contribute in a big way towards securing these objectives.
A deputation of the JK Peoples Party led by Imran Rahi, discussed with the Governor issues relating to the obtaining approaches towards the treatment of ex-militants, issues relating to their rehabilitation and the important role they can play in normalizing the political dynamics in the State.
Dr G H Mir, Director, Lifelong Learning and Prof M Y Ganai, Professor of History, Kashmir University discussed with the Governor, who is Chancellor of the Kashmir University, various matters pertaining to the growth of the varsity. Dr. Mir briefed the Governor about the functioning of the Directorate of Lifelong Learning and the initiatives being taken in regard to the promotion of distance mode of education.
