Young artist calls to boycott normality, think beyond

JAMMU, June 23: Kanav Gupta’s week long painting exhibition titled ‘Naily 2012’ comprising of watercolor paintings, photographs, posters, and animation films, and designer T Shirts, which concluded at the RichenbZangpo Gallery, here today, provided a glimpse into multifaceted creative personality as well as concerns of the young artist who says that new generation should boycott normality and think beyond.
A son of soil and alumni of DPS, Jammu, Kanav Gupta is presently a freelance publicity designer and film maker in Mumbai. One of the few trained animation artists from State, he had training in Film making with Specialization in ‘Art & Technique’ of Animation’, from WhistlingWoods International, which is promoted by well known film maker Subhash Ghai and floated by his daughter Meghna Desai.
The exhibition which is artist’s first solo show, Kanav Gupta has not only showcased the maturing of his childhood hobby of art into imaginative expression on canvas and other mass media but also his accomplishments in his professional field.
In the paintings, which formed the major part of the exhibition, the artist has portrayed a world wherein there is no scope for run of the mill way of life instead he urges one and all to dream, to be novel and innovative-what he calls as ‘Boycott Normality’. His works reflect artist’s wish for happiness, harmony between nature and man, individual’s quest for spiritual bliss and universal peace.
The central character in all his works is ‘Naily’, the animated being that emerged by chance when he was scribbling nails on a paper, hence called ‘Naily’.
Out of the other body of works like photographs, posters, it is the award winning short animation films titled ‘Music of Life’ and ‘Banana Bandit’ that are testimony to young animators mastery of form and technique of the art of animation.
Suman Gupta, well-known painter who visited the exhibition, was full of praise for the young artist. He said that it was a matter of pride that young artist from Jammu is all set to make a mark in the field of publicity design and film animation, which has enormous scope in present times.
One who was groomed by his school art teacher Suresh Sharma, Kanav Gupta said that he owes his success to his parents Kamal and Kanchan Gupta who have always supported his interest in art and animation.
