JU’s Bioinformatics Centre organizes seminar

JAMMU, Oct 21: Bioinfor-matics Centre, University of Jammu today organized a seminar to generate awareness about Bioinformatics.
The seminar was inaugurated by Prof Deshbandhu Gupta, Dean, Academic Affairs, University of Jammu. Prof Gupta deliberated on research work in Bioinformatics and emphasized on the power of bioinformatics to solve the complex issues of living system.
Prof Manoj K Dhar, Coordinator, Bioinformatics Centre, highlighted the importance of Bioinformatics in life science research. He said that Bioinformatics is considered to be science of the century.
Prof Dhar further informed that Bioinformatics Centre, University of Jammu is offering a PG Diploma course in Bioinformatics which is a innovative program funded by UGC, New Delhi. He emphasized the importance of generating trained manpower in this area and elaborated on the scope of Bioinformatics.
The invited speaker, Dr Sanjay Ghawana and Vaibhav Jain from Premas Biotech, Gurgaon delivered a talk on Next Generation Sequencing and how to analyze the big genomic data on October 20.
