JU employees call off strike as VC assures to look into demands

JAMMU, Dec 19: Class IV employees and Casual Workers of Jammu University have called of their strike following reinstatement of two Watchmen, who were suspended following the incident of defacement of Replica Foundation Stone on the campus, last month.
The Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma also held an interaction meeting with the class four employees today and assured to consider all their genuine demands.
While pointing towards a few recent incidents on the campus, the Vice-Chancellor said that some elements were  hell bent to create an atmosphere of uncertainty in the Jammu University and it was responsibility of  every right thinking person  to ensure that such miscreant are not allowed to  exploit the situation. The Union has a role to play and they are morally bound to raise genuine issues related to employees but that doesn’t mean employees have to sit on strike, which is the last resort, he added.
Vijay Sharma, president of Non Gazzetted Employees Union, appreciated the initiative of   the Vice Chancellor for showing genuine concern related to the issues of the Class IV employees.
Suraj Prakash, vice president of NGEU also addressed the gathering and said that Jammu University Class IV employees are the integral part and parcel of the University system. The system works only when all the components work in unison and the dysfunction of one component leads to imbalance in the institution, he explained.
Among others, Prof Pankaj Srivastava, Dean Students Welfare,   Jai Kumar Sharma, Spl Secy to the VC, NGEU general secretary Banarsi Lal and other executive members of the union were also present on the occasion.
